Dr. James A. Maslanik

Dr. Maslanik holds a Ph.D. in Physical Geography from the University of Colorado(1988). In addition, he received his M.E.P.C. in Environmental Pollution Control from the Department of Civil Engineering, Pennsylvania State University in 1981 and his B.S. in Forest Science, Pennsylvania State University in 1978. Dr. Maslanik's research interests include Polar climatology, remote sensing, and regional modeling of sea ice and land surfac processes. His teaching interests are Surface-atmosphere interactions, applied remote sensing and geographic information systems, and field methods. Dr. Maslanik studies the role of Arctic processes in regional and global climate, and investigates methods of improving the linkages between remote sensing, field observations, and climate modeling for polar and land surfaces.

Dr. Maslanik's professional activities include membership in the A.G.U., the Am. Assoc. for Artificial Intelligence, the Society of Am. Foresters the Alaska SAR Facility RADARSAT working group, and the AMIP GCM intercomparison project. Dr. Masalanik is currently employed as a Research Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Aerospace Engr., Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research (CCAR), Univ. of Colorado, Boulder.
