Dr. Wilheit received his B.A. in Physics, cum laude, from the University of the
South in 1963. He received an M.A. in Physics from Washington University in 1967
and a Ph.D. in physics from the Massachusettes Institute of Technology 1970. From
1971 to 1985, Dr. Wilhiet worked as a reasearch scientist at the NASA Goddard
Space Flight Center, serving as the head of the Microwave Sensors and Data Communication
Branch from 1985 to 1989. Dr. Wilheit is currently the Brockett Professor of Geosciences
at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Texas A&M University.
Dr. Wilheit serves as the Co-Chief Editor (Atmospheres) Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, is a member of the Committee on Earth Studies at the National Research Council, received the Texas A&M University Faculty Distinguished Acheivement Award in Research for the year 2000. Dr. Wilheit's honors and awards include the NASA Exceptional Service Medal (1989) and a Japan Trust Fellow (1989).
