CHARM to update data entry pages!
Note: If you are a CHARM participant and did not receive this message via email, we probably do not have a current email address for you. Please email me at erik.r.reimers@nasa.gov, so we can keep our mailing list up-to-date. Thanks!
We are implementing a new web page for data entry and readout of CHARM rainfall data. The DATA ENTRY PAGE has a new look to support reporting requirements for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS) and will support two databases – the old CHARM database and one consistent with CoCoRaHS requirements. We plan to bring this page on-line THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2007.
The new DATA ENTRY PAGE will support Daily Report (the usual 24hr CHARM rainfall totals), Asynoptic Report (special short lived events), and a Monthly Zero page. The Daily Report page is similar to the old CHARM entry page which allows you to report 24hr rainfall totals and we have added a 24hr snow report box. Use this page like you have used the CHARM page in the past. The Asynopotic Report page can be used to report unusually, significant or short duration rain and snow events. For example, if you are at home on Saturday and observe that you get 3.05” of rain from 10:00am to 11:30am, you can report this special observation on this page. These observations are INDEPENDENT of your 24hr rainfall report on the Daily Report page. However, like the 24hr totals, your asynoptic reports are sent to the National Weather Service as a special observation. YES, YOU ARE ACTUALLY HELPING THE WEATHER SERVICE DO THEIR JOB! The Monthly Zero page is for deadbeats like me how are too lazy to report a “zero” on days when it does not rain – we have had a lot of them lately. It allows the observer to view his / her past monthly reports and make all the “missing” reports 0.00”.
The new data entry web pages will go on-line on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2007. If you have any questions or problems please contact Erik Reimers (erik.r.reimers@nasa.gov).
Hope for rain!
