WVTI Study - Satellite
Data Coverage Map
The map above shows satellite data coverage and
analysis regions used in the various water vapor transport studies.
For the 1987-1988 study, GOES 7 Pathfinder data was used over
a limited portion of the full disk to derive winds and humidity
over the red box. This analysis region extends from 45N-45S and
from 30W-120W.
The 1997-1998 study uses GOES 8/9/10 data and
extends the analysis region farther into the Pacific to 160W
but limits the southern coverage to 30S. In order to get this
coverage (medium gray box), data from the GOES 8 Northern Hemisphere
Extended region and the GOES 9/10 northern and southern hemisphere
regions are used (since the GOES I/M satellite series only collects
full disk data on three hour cycles). This analysis region may
be extended even further west (dark gray box) with the inclusion
of limited sectors from the GMS (Geostationary Meteorological
Satellite - Japan) data.
