Short-term Forecasting

30 March 2002 (AVI 8.4MB)
The 3D Lightning Mapping Array (LMA) VHF source density (2 km x 2 km horizontal, 500 m vertical grid) animation updated every 2-min (0000-0850 UTC) for 30 March 2002. The East-West and North-South vertical projection of the sources points to the growth and decay of the electrically active storms. A tornadic storm forms in Marshall County, Alabama at 0530 UTC.

10-11 November 2002 (AVI 23.8MB)
The 3D Lightning Mapping Array (LMA) VHF source density (2 km x 2 km horizontal, 500 m vertical grid) animation updated every 5-min (2031-0520 UTC) for 10-11 November 2002. The East-West and North-South vertical projection of the sources points to the growth and decay of the electrically active storms and tornadic supercells that move across the Tennessee Valley.
