Training Notes:

  • In order for the forecaster to get full use out of the MODIS false color snow product, it is important for him/her to know some of the basic scan concepts of MODIS, spectral channel configuration, and spatial resolution (as a function of channel).
  • Since the false color snow product is accessed via AWIPS like any other MODIS image, it is useful for the forecaster to know how to display the MODIS data in AWIPS, use the appropriate enhancements for display, and how to determine when the next MODIS pass (image) will occur.
  • Additional MODIS information is available in a separate set of training charts.
